Father-son selection Ben Jarman will start his AFL career in the No.45.

Jarman, who was picked up in Monday’s Rookie Draft, was the final addition to Adelaide’s playing squad for Season 2017.

The crafty small forward/wingman has the highest number on the list following former rookie Jake Kelly’s decision to move from No.47 to No.8, and the departure of rookie Keenan Ramsey (No.46).

The No.45 was most recently owned by Ricky Henderson, who joined Hawthorn during the offseason. Henderson played 90 AFL games in the guernsey. Only two other players, Paul Rouvray and Ashley Fernee, have pulled on jumper No.45 for the Club in a match for premiership points.

Ben’s famous footballing father, Darren, wore the No.3 guernsey during 121 games and two flags with the Crows from 1996 to 2001. It’s currently owned by promising half-forward Riley Knight.

Ben will also wear a different number to his uncle Andrew, who played 110 games for the Crows from 1991 to 1996. Andrew Jarman wore No.2, which is occupied by midfielder Brad Crouch.

It’s common at Adelaide for rookie-listed players to occupy the higher numbers. However, there have been a few exceptions in recent years with players like Henderson, Matt Crouch, Mitch McGovern and Reilly O’Brien opting to hang onto numbers in the 40s rather than trading down.

Earlier, it was announced that first-round pick Jordan Gallucci will take over the No.7 jumper from respected former captain Nathan van Berlo. Fellow draftees Myles Poholke (31) and Elliott Himmelberg (34) have also received their Crows numbers.

Defender Jake Kelly and midfielder Harrison Wigg have also changed lockers for Season 2017.
